Family-owned multi-line insurance agency is seeking an Agent’s Assistant to become part of our agency team. Candidates must possess skills to provide quality customer service to new and existing clients.  Applicant must be friendly, yet professional, detail-oriented, self-directed, organized, fast learner, flexible and open and willing to learn new things.  This position is a part-time position but may develop into a full-time position as the agency grows.

Current Virginia Property and Casualty (P & C) insurance license required.  (Applicants will also be considered who are not licensed and do not have past insurance experience.  In this case, the applicant would be required to earn their P & C license within the first thirty (30) days of employment with agency owner providing specific information on how to obtain this.)  Applicants who already hold their P & C license must be current with all continuing education (CE) requirements for the current biennium and in good standing with all regulatory bodies and past insurance companies with whom they have been appointed.  A portion of the applicant’s training will be given in a classroom setting which will require that the applicant travel to Albany, New York for several days (up to a week) during the first 30 – 90 days of employment.

Requirements & Experience:

Must possess strong communication skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with people from a variety of backgrounds. Proficiency with office equipment, Microsoft Office programs, and a strong desire and willingness to learn new and very technical and tedious computer quoting and agency management software. Agricultural, equine, or general farm background is a plus as the agency specializes in assisting farm and agribusiness clients with all of their insurance needs.  This position will assist the Agent with entering information into quoting programs and uploading various underwriting requirements (photos, questionnaires, loss runs (loss histories), diagrams, etc.) to insurance companies to complete proposals to present to current and prospective clients.  Prior work experience in office settings and administrative positions will be considered in lieu of insurance experience.  Recent graduates from business programs (either high school or college) will also be considered.  Special consideration given to those applicants who were active in FBLA, FFA, 4-H, AGR, and other agricultural or business related organizations as a strong agricultural and/or business or agribusiness background will be very helpful in this position.
